The inspiration for jump_spread_glide was the northern flying squirrel (Glaucomys Sabrinus). Imitating the physics of its spreading and gliding motion, the device has four limbs that start out in a folded state. During the launch they spread out and allow the device to slowly glide towards the ground. An umbrella was disassembled and analysed to serve as an inspiritation for the devices mechanical principle. The devices skin consists of interwoven PVC-strips with open endings on one of the four sides, which stand for an abstracted version of the animals textured fur as well as its tail.
